Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolour Tubes of 21ml and 8ml
Cotman Watercolour from Winsor & Newton are of high quality and cost less than comparable artist brands. Using modern organic pigments rather than costly metals, they are able to keep prices down. Alternative pigments are used in the Cotman line to replace some of the rarest pigments found in Artists’ Watercolors. All of the pigments mix cleanly and are simple to apply with a brush or sponge, and they have excellent lightfastness and colouring durability.
The Cotman Watercolour assortment provides a better consistency than the Professional Water Colour range, which make it easier for beginners to get started. This line of paints is comparable to the Winsor and Newton Professional Water Colour range, among other things, because Burnt Sienna in both lines has the same colour. The use of colours from both collections with a minimum of adjustment to their approach is possible. Cost is kept low by replacing a few more costly pigments with less costly alternatives. Pigments can be made from a wide range of substances, including earths like ochre and umber, as well as iron compounds that can be considered ‘traditional’ or ‘genuine’ colours like ultramarine. Petroleum is distilled to produce a growing number of organic pigments that are often called ‘modern’. Cotman uses a wide range of organic pigments.
